- The IMPACT Series -

A series of one-of-one artworks where colour reveals its full spectrum.

Atelier Kalle Hellzén IMPACT 0009

IMPACT isolates the split second when pigment, medium, and physics reveal their hidden spectrum. Each work in the series is created through macro capture, digital and generative refinement, and analogue return, making every piece a singular record of colour at the moment of impact.

IMPACT extends the core of my practice into its most distilled form.

The works originate from macro studies of pigment, medium, chemistry, and physics interacting at close range, evolving through cycles of digital and analogue processes. I focus on the split second in which surface tension breaks and the components pull apart, revealing their full spectrum in a volatile choreography before settling into a single mix. This moment of exposure before collapse mirrors the tension that has always driven my work.

With IMPACT, the substrate is not a background but a threshold, a surface that carries all colours within it. When that surface breaks at impact, the material spectrum and my own internal spectrum become briefly visible together.

Each work in the series is singular, non-reproducible, and hand-signed.

Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic
340 gsm, 100% cotton
Natural white, without optical brighteners
Sophisticated surface texture with a unique, silvery-shimmering metallic effect
Acid and lignin-free
ISO 9706 compliant, museum quality for high age resistance

Please note that digital screens cannot perfectly replicate physical pigments; the print itself is the definitive reference for color and texture. Subtle variations in character are inherent.

Unpacking & Surface Safety

  • Edge Sensitivity: Because the work has little handling border, the edges are part of the composition. Handle with care to avoid crimping or marking the corners.
  • Glove Use: We strongly recommend wearing lint-free cotton gloves during any handling. The surface of the paper is highly sensitive to the natural oils and moisture from fingertips.
  • Surface Contact: Avoid sliding the print against any surface. The structure can be prone to scuffing if moved across a rough plane.

Framing Recommendations
For collectors opting to frame the work themselves, we recommend a professional float mount to maintain the work’s intended presence. To reproduce the atelier’s signature look, instruct your framer as follows:

  • Mounting: Float the print on an acid-free backing board to leave the mould-made edges visible.
  • Frame Profile: Request a discrete wood profile with a 15 mm (0.6 in) face and a 30 mm (1.2 in) depth.
  • Glass: Specify reflex-reducing museum glass with UV protection to preserve the pigment integrity over time.
  • Materials: Ensure all mounting tapes and adhesives are strictly acid-free (syrafria).

Environment & Longevity
While the paper is ISO 9706 compliant for age resistance, the work should be placed in a stable environment. Avoid areas of high humidity or direct, prolonged exposure to high-intensity UV light. Do not place the work directly above active heat sources such as radiators or fireplaces.
